Chapter 9: Tumor Blood Vessels: 3-D Tubular Network Analysis

  • 3-D Tubular Network Analysis3-D Tubular Network Analysis
  • 3-D Tubular Network Analysis
  • Dr. Christian Tischer

In this chapter you will learn how to segment and analyze the blood vessel network of a subcutaneous tumor. The analysis is performed fully in 3D and possible strategies to extract statistics of network geometry and  interactively visualize results are discussed and implemented. In terms of image analysis you will learn morphological operations to fill hollow structures and image derivative based methods to enhance filamentous structures. Moreover you will learn how to thin (skeletonize) segmented objects, a helpful operation to extract relevant statistics of a branched network.
