Immersion Freezing for Cryo-Transmission Electron Microscopy
- Read Whitepaper-PDF
Transmission electron microscopy of fully hydrated, unstained specimens at cryogenic temperatures (cryo-TEM) is a versatile tool in structural biology, cell biology, pharmacology and other branches of science. Ultra-fast freezing of the specimen by plunging it into a cryogen (immersion freezing) is a method commonly used to prepare a wide range of specimens for inspection in the microscope. Adding to the article about the fundamentals of immersion freezing, this text introduces three different cryo-TEM applications using immersion frozen specimens from different fields.
