Postdoc/Group Leader: Single Particle Analysis / Cryo-EM
The Institute of Cellular Biology and Pathology (ICBP) of the 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague, is looking for a motivated young post-doc who acquired his PhD. degree in 2005 or later, with considerable experience in cryo-EM (single particle analysis, tomography) in structural biology. Candidates capable of leading an independent research project may be offered a group-leader position. We offer a competitive salary according to local standards in a well equipped laboratory for both fluorescence and transmission electron microscopy. The position will be available starting 1st June, 2012. To apply, please contact Prof. Ivan Raška with your CV, a letter of interest, a summary of research experience and the names and e-mail addresses of 2 references.

PhD Position: Electron Microscopic Detection of Nanoparticles in Cells
Nanoparticles are frequently used as additives in food and articles of daily use which necessitates studies of possible adverse effects on biological systems. In this context, the Laboratory for Electron Microscopy at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is recruiting a PhD student for an interdisciplinary project concerned with the detection of nanoparticles in cells. The PhD candidate with a Diplom/Master in physics is expected to use advanced electron microscopic techniques for nanoparticle detection in cells and image simulations to understand contrast formation. Further tasks involve the optimization of electron microscopic techniques and participation in cell culture experiments.

Postdoctoral Researcher in Scanning Probe Microscopy of Nanocatalysts
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral associate position. The position is 1-3 years and is funded by the European Research Council (ERC) in a project headed by Associate Prof. Jeppe V. Lauritsen at the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center, Aarhus University, Denmark. The successful candidate will be joining a small team seeking to understand some of the cluster-support synergies and size-effects which have been revealed in catalytic systems, e.g. for transition metals on some metal oxides. A particular challenge and advance of the project is the application of non-contact Atomic Force Microscopy (nc-AFM) to atomically characterize relevant metal oxide surfaces and model catalysts based on real metal oxides or sulfides used in heterogeneous catalysis.

Head of Facility for Advanced Microscopy and Imaging
The Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research invites applications for the position as "Head of the Facility for Advanced Microscopy and Imaging (FAIM)". We are seeking an individual with extensive knowledge, expertise and a demonstrated track record in microscopy and optical engineering in a biological research environment. Practical experience in optical techniques such as multiphoton and/or superresolution microscopy, as well as image processing and digital data management is important. The successful candidate will have a talent for leadership, strong communication skills and experience in the successful supervision of co-workers. Management experience in a microscopy and imaging laboratory is an advantage. The closing date for applications is September 11, 2011.

Postdoctoral Position in Transmission Electron Microscopy
The Department of Inorganic Chemistry at the Fritz-Haber-Institute in Berlin, Germany, offers a postdoctoral position in the field of transmission electron microscopy. To strengthen our team, we are looking for a skillful electron microscopist. The candidate should have a profound knowledge of solid state physics and crystallography, and a proven record of hands on experience with state-of-the-art (Cs-corrected) analytical transmission electron microscopes. Experience in studying structure/property relationship via electron microscopy, preferably in the field of catalysis, is of advantage.

PhD Position: Microstructural Characterization by TEM
The successful candidate will work on the characterization by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) of the samples provided by the network participating institutions. Previous experience on this characterization method will be considered a great asset, but is not strictly required. The position can lead to a PhD diploma. The candidate will receive training on microstructural analysis using TEM by highly experienced scientists. Additional training on other characterization methods, material growth and applications will be provided by the project partner institutions during secondments, training schools, courses, workshops and tutorial days. Applications should be sent to Prof. E.K. Polychroniadis (polychr@auth.gr) and should include a detailed CV
