Correlative 3D LM-EM Imaging of Mitochondria During Apoptosis. M. Sun & colleagues studied the behaviour of mitochondria during apoptosis using fluorescence microscopy in combination with 3D electron tomography of the same cells. After locating apoptotic cells in the light microscope, they could subsequentially study the remodelling of the inner mitochondrial membrane into separate vesicular compartments at the ultrastructural level.
