Focus On Microscopy – FOM 2011

Konstanz, Germany, April 17–20, 2011

Jan. 18, 2011

Focus On Microscopy - FOM 2011: After the successful FOM2010 conference held in Shanghai, China in 2010, the next conference Focus on Microscopy 2011 takes place in Konstanz, Germany in the week before Easter from Sunday April 17 to Wednesday April 20, 2011. Hosted by the University of Konstanz, it starts around 6 o‘clock in the afternoon on Sunday the 17th with a plenary opening session followed by a welcome reception.

The conference will be take place at the campus of the University of Konstanz. Konstanz can easily reached by train or car. For international travelers the airport of Zurich, Switzerland with an hourly connection to Konstanz, may be the most covenient way to travel. All details around registration, abstract submission and deadlines and travel are present or will come shortly available on website.

A wide range of microscopy and microscopy related subjects will be addressed. These range from the physics of super-resolution spatial image formation to the advanced use of fluorescent probes in - live - cellular biophysics. With its origin and focus in sectioned confocal/2-photon microscopy the conference also signals important developments in neighbouring fields

Topics of the FOM Conference Series Include:

  • Theory and practice of confocal and multiphoton-excitation microscopy
  • 3D and 4D live cell and tissue imaging
  • Super-resolution or nanoscopy techniques: from PSF engineering (4pi, SIM, STED), fluorescer activation/quenching, stochastic/centroid to TIRF approaches.
  • Time-resolved fluorescence: FRET, FRAP, FLIM, FCS
  • Coherent non-linear microscopy: SHG, THG, SFG, CARS
  • Multi-dimensional fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy imaging
  • Laser manipulation, ablation and micro-dissection, photo-activation
  • OCT, endoscopy, whole animal fluorescence
  • Automated and high-throughput microscopy techniques
  • 3D image processing and visualization for multidimensional data

The conference series is, in addition, known for covering the rapid development of advanced fluorescence labeling techniques for the confocal and multi-photon 3D imaging and single molecule imaging in -live- biological specimens.
