23.02.2010By adjusting the angle of incidence the new series of Semrock VersaChrome filters change their spectral performance to shorter wavelength. But in contrast to "normal" interference filters, there is no change in transmission intensity (>90%) and blocking specifications, they are also polarization insensitive with high imaging optical quality. The tuning can done between 0 and 60 degrees, which results in a center wavelength change of approximately 60 nm. Five different VersaChrome filters are available from 390-700nm, ideal tools for fluorescence spectroscopy.
more22.02.2010Olympus has introduced an improved version of its successful dotSlide virtual slide system. The new VS110 combines microscopy seamlessly with imaging to create a virtual slide that is an exact copy of the real specimen. Generating a high resolution image of the whole specimen, this can be viewed and analyzed from the overview image at low magnification up to maximum magnification by simply zooming in. All samples can be evaluated around the world instantly and simultaneously as they are stored electronically on a central server.
more16.02.2010The GIF Quantum series represents Gatan's 4th and most advanced generation of post-column energy filters. Redesigned from the ground up, the GIF Quantum combines advanced dodecapole-based electron optics with a blazing fast CCD camera system to yield an imaging filter that defines the capture of both highly detailed EELS and EFTEM data sets with maximum throughput.
more12.02.2010Linkam Scientific Instruments reports on work at Kingston University that heating and freezing stages are being used in thousands of laboratories worldwide. Applications may be found in just about all scientific disciplines from materials to foods, from chemistry to physics and biology. One area which continues to grow is the use in geology to study properties of the Earth.
more11.02.2010Malaria - caused by Plasmodium sp. and spread to humans by species of tropical mosquitoes (Anopheles sp.) - is endemic in 107 countries with 3.2 billion people and therefore one of the most dangerous diseases worldwide. Despite the fact that Malaria is preventable and treatable, according to WHO 300-500 million people are infected by Malaria every year, with far more than 1 million death cases annually - including one child every 30 seconds. A safe, easy, and in particular rapid diagnostic test is of great importance for Malaria treatment.
more04.02.2010Andor Technology announced the launch of their new iXonEM Blue EMCCD (Electron Multiplying CCD) camera. This latest addition to the family of low light imaging cameras is based around a blue-enhanced variant of a popular 512x512 back-illuminated EMCCD sensor, and is engineered to deliver up to greater than 20% additional sensitivity to blue wavelength photons.
more21.01.2010Users of the AxioVision microscope software from Carl Zeiss receive fast and easy access to the documentation of the ZVI image format which has been specially developed for microscopy. The licensing required for integration into user-specific software programs is performed online. This means that all necessary information is available without delay to AxioVision users and software developers who want to visualize and evaluate ZVI images with their own software.
more13.01.2010Andor Technology announced a higher performance from the most sensitive interline CCD camera on the market, Clara. Based on measured QC data from the first 200 cameras built, the company is able to reduce the typical read noise to 2.4 electrons at 1MHz, representing a low detection limit. In addition, a significant improvement to the cooling performance; the Clara now offers cooling to -55 °C with internal fan only (no water required), complementing an impressive -20 °C under fan-off (vibration free) operation is possible.
