For its 10th anniversary the annual meeting of the "European Light Microscopy Initiative" (ELMI) came back to where it originally was founded. In the beginning of 2001 representatives from diverse European light microscopy core facilities and manufacturers came together at the "European Molecular Biology Laboratory" (EMBL), to form a network, which leads to faster exchange of information, increases problem-solving abilities, raises awareness of light microscopy in Europe and be a means of securing future funding.
