HILO Microscopy

In an interesting use of the optical setup required for objective-based TIRF, M. Togunaga and colleagues described the advantage of using inclined illumination below the critical angle for total internal reflection. Highly Inclined and Laminated Optical sheet (HILO) microscopy significantly improves the signal to background ratio by increasing the image intensity and decreasing the background intensity.
