Does the pressure on you to demonstrate your continuing professional development increase year-on-year? And, does it feel that the time available to do so is decreasing at a similar rate? If this is the case, then the opportunities to update your knowledge and to improve your skills are likely to be isolated, and the prospect of undertaking a more measured, long-term approach can seem a long way off. In an attempt to remedy this, the new Diploma of the Royal Microscopical Society (Dip RMS) has been launched.

As earlier announced the next European Microscopy Congress, EMC 2012, will be organized by the Royal Microscopical Society (RMS) in cooperation with the Electron Microscopy and Analysis Group (EMAG). The original plan was to use the ExCeL convention centre in London, the same venue as used for the biannual Microscience trade show and conference series. In late September of 2012, however, it became clear that the arrangements with the ExCeL site could not be finalized due to a possible overlap with reservations made by the Olympic organization running into the EMC exhibition set-up period.
